Food Safety & Dietary Disclaimer
Effective Date: September 8, 2026 · Version 1.1
This page renders the same Food Safety & Dietary Disclaimer bundled inside the Corm app. It is a binding addendum to the Terms of Service. If the two ever differ, the in-app version the user accepted governs.
THIS DOCUMENT IS A LEGALLY BINDING ADDENDUM TO THE CORM TECHNOLOGIES LLC TERMS OF SERVICE. BY USING THE APPLICATION, YOU AGREE TO ALL TERMS HEREIN.
1. Purpose and Scope
This Food Safety & Dietary Disclaimer ("Disclaimer") supplements the Corm Technologies LLC Terms of Service and provides detailed disclosures about the limitations of the Application's food safety, dietary restriction, nutritional, and financial features. This Disclaimer is incorporated into and forms part of the Terms of Service.
This Disclaimer applies to all features of the Application that relate to: food expiration, freshness, and shelf life tracking; dietary restrictions, allergens, and food intolerances; nutritional information and content; recipe ingredients and preparation instructions; budget tracking and grocery cost analytics; and AI-generated meal plans, suggestions, and recommendations.
2. Food Expiration and Safety Disclaimer
2.1 Expiration Tracking Is Informational Only
The Application tracks estimated expiration dates for pantry items based on: user-entered purchase dates; general category-based shelf life estimates; learned shelf life personalization derived from your historical usage patterns; and algorithmic predictions.
NONE OF THESE METHODS CONSTITUTE ACTUAL FOOD SAFETY TESTING. The Application cannot detect bacterial contamination, spoilage, improper storage temperatures, cross-contamination, chemical changes, toxin production, or any other food safety hazard that requires laboratory testing or physical inspection.
2.2 Perishable Urgency Notifications
The Application assigns urgency levels to pantry items approaching their estimated expiration. These classifications range from lower-urgency early warnings to higher-urgency alerts as the estimated expiration date approaches. All urgency levels are based on date arithmetic and general category estimates only. They do not reflect laboratory testing, microbiological analysis, or any actual assessment of food safety.
You must NEVER rely solely on these urgency classifications to determine whether food is safe to consume. Always inspect food for visual signs of spoilage, off odors, unusual texture, mold, discoloration, or other indicators of deterioration. When in doubt, discard the item.
Certain groups face elevated risk from foodborne illness, including pregnant people, infants and young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. If you are in — or are preparing food for — a higher-risk group, follow the stricter food safety guidance published by your health authority for that group and apply extra caution beyond anything the Application displays.
2.3 Automated Pantry Management
The Application may automatically remove items from your digital pantry when their estimated expiration date has passed. This is a digital housekeeping feature only. It does NOT mean that: the physical food item is unsafe (it may still be perfectly edible); the physical food item is safe (it may have spoiled before the estimated date); or you should or should not consume the item. Always check physical food items independently.
2.4 Learned Shelf Life Personalization
The Application learns from your usage patterns to adjust shelf life estimates over time. This learning is based on YOUR specific behavior patterns and general food category data — NOT on food science, laboratory testing, microbiological analysis, or any form of safety validation. Learned estimates may be LESS conservative than manufacturer recommendations and should never override printed expiration dates, "use by" dates, or "best before" dates on actual food packaging.
2.5 Perishable-Based Recipe Suggestions
When the Application suggests recipes to help use perishable items before they expire, these suggestions are based on algorithmic matching of pantry items to recipe ingredients. The Application does NOT verify that the perishable items are actually safe to use in cooking. An item nearing its estimated expiration date may already be spoiled, contaminated, or unsafe regardless of what the Application suggests. You must independently verify the safety of all ingredients before cooking.
3. Dietary Restriction and Allergen Disclaimer
3.1 Dietary Restriction Tracking Limitations
The Application supports tracking of multiple dietary restriction categories (such as gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, nut-free, shellfish-free, and others) with configurable severity levels ranging from preference to life-threatening.
THIS CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM IS A USER-CONFIGURED CONVENIENCE FEATURE, NOT A MEDICAL DEVICE OR CLINICAL DIAGNOSTIC TOOL. The severity levels are self-reported by the user and are not validated by healthcare professionals through the Application.
3.2 Allergen Detection Limitations
The Application attempts to match recipe ingredients against your configured dietary restrictions using natural language processing and ingredient database lookups. This system CANNOT guarantee allergen-free results because:
Ingredient databases may contain errors, omissions, outdated information, or inconsistent naming conventions.
Natural language processing may fail to identify allergens in complex ingredient descriptions, proprietary ingredient names, or ingredient lists in languages other than English.
Sub-ingredients, processing aids, carrier substances, and trace components may not be listed or detected.
Cross-contamination during food manufacturing, shipping, storage, or preparation cannot be detected by the Application.
"May contain" warnings and shared-facility disclosures from food manufacturers are not systematically tracked.
Recipe modifications, substitutions, or user-entered recipes are not automatically re-validated for allergen conflicts.
Recipes imported into the Application — for example from a photo or pasted text — are converted to structured data automatically. Automatic recognition may misread, omit, or mis-quantify ingredients, and any allergen checking performed on an imported recipe inherits those errors. Always compare an imported recipe against the original source before relying on it.
Allergen content can vary between brands, batches, and regional formulations of the same product.
3.3 Life-Threatening Allergies
IF YOU OR ANY MEMBER OF YOUR HOUSEHOLD HAS A LIFE-THREATENING FOOD ALLERGY (ANAPHYLAXIS RISK), YOU MUST NOT RELY ON THE APPLICATION FOR ALLERGEN AVOIDANCE. Always: read physical ingredient labels on every product before use; contact food manufacturers directly to verify allergen-free status; consult with a board-certified allergist for dietary guidance; carry prescribed emergency medication (e.g., epinephrine auto-injector) at all times; and inform anyone preparing food for you about your allergy directly, rather than relying on Application data.
3.4 Household Dietary Conflicts
In Household Accounts, the Application tracks dietary restrictions for multiple household members and attempts to flag conflicts when meal plans include incompatible ingredients. However, this conflict detection is subject to all limitations described in Section 3.2 above. The account holder is responsible for verifying that meals are safe for all household members.
3.5 Nutritional Information
Nutritional data displayed in the Application (calories, macronutrients, micronutrients) is sourced from third-party databases and algorithmic estimates. This information is approximate only and may not reflect: actual nutritional content of specific products or brands; variations due to cooking methods, preparation techniques, or portion sizes; regional differences in food composition; or your individual nutritional needs. The Application does not provide medical nutritional therapy, dietetic counseling, or clinical nutrition advice. Consult a registered dietitian or healthcare provider for personalized nutritional guidance.
4. Financial and Budget Disclaimer
4.1 Budget Features Are Informational Only
The Application provides budget tracking and grocery cost analytics as informational convenience tools. These features include: budget limit configuration and tracking; spending entry logging; estimated grocery costs for meal plans; price estimates for shopping list items; and budget utilization notifications.
4.2 Price Estimate Limitations
Price estimates provided by the Application are algorithmic approximations and may not reflect: actual retail prices at your local stores; sales, promotions, coupons, or loyalty discounts; regional pricing variations; seasonal price fluctuations; taxes, fees, or delivery charges; unit pricing differences between brands or package sizes; or price changes since the last data update.
4.3 No Financial Advice
THE APPLICATION DOES NOT PROVIDE FINANCIAL ADVICE, TAX ADVICE, OR ACCOUNTING SERVICES. Budget tracking is a personal organizational tool only. Going over budget, making unplanned purchases, or incurring unexpected grocery costs are your sole responsibility. The Application does not authorize, process, or execute financial transactions (billing is handled entirely by Apple's App Store).
5. AI and Autonomous Feature Disclaimer
5.1 AI Recommendations Are Not Expert Advice
All AI-generated outputs in the Application — including meal suggestions, recipe recommendations, autonomous meal plans, ingredient-based recipe matching, and perishable-prioritized recommendations — are produced by statistical machine learning models. These outputs are NOT: reviewed or validated by nutritionists, dietitians, food scientists, chefs, or medical professionals; guaranteed to be safe, accurate, nutritionally balanced, or appropriate for your specific circumstances; or a substitute for professional dietary, nutritional, medical, or culinary advice.
5.2 Autonomous Meal Planning
When Autonomous Planning Mode is enabled, the Application automatically generates and populates meal plans without requiring your explicit approval for each individual meal. The autonomous planner uses configurable algorithmic parameters — including factors for recipe variety, cuisine diversity, pantry ingredient coverage, and perishable prioritization — to determine meal selections. These parameters are engineering defaults, may be adjusted via remote configuration, and do NOT represent nutritional science, dietetic best practices, or food safety standards. Autonomous plans may include recipes that do not meet your actual nutritional needs, caloric requirements, or health goals.
5.3 Procurement Suggestions
The Application generates shopping suggestions by comparing planned meal ingredients against your current digital pantry. These suggestions: depend entirely on the accuracy of your pantry data (which you enter and maintain); may include items you already have if your pantry is not up to date; may omit items you need if your pantry incorrectly shows them as available; and include estimated quantities that may not match actual recipe requirements due to unit normalization and rounding.
6. Specific Risk Acknowledgments
By using the Application, you expressly acknowledge and accept the following specific risks:
Expired Food Consumption Risk: The Application's expiration tracking is based on estimates and cannot determine actual food safety. Consuming food based on the Application's expiration data may result in foodborne illness. YOU ASSUME THIS RISK ENTIRELY.
Allergic Reaction Risk: The Application's dietary restriction tracking cannot guarantee allergen-free meals. Following Application suggestions may expose you to allergens. YOU ASSUME THIS RISK ENTIRELY.
Cross-Contamination Risk: The Application cannot account for cross-contamination during food manufacturing, storage, or preparation. YOU ASSUME THIS RISK ENTIRELY.
Nutritional Inadequacy Risk: AI-generated meal plans are not designed to meet specific nutritional requirements, medical dietary needs, or caloric targets. Following Application meal plans as your sole dietary guide may result in nutritional deficiencies. YOU ASSUME THIS RISK ENTIRELY.
